1.) Clean your car inside and out Having your car clean ensures that the damage assessment report can be done with ease and quickness. If your car is covered in dirt, it's virtually impossible to see a scratch or
small imperfection, and that makes doing a condition report quite time consuming for a transporter. It also diminishes the reliability of the report, especially if photos cannot be taken of the damages or current condition
of the car.
2.) Contact the trucking company hauling your car right away Be sure to contact the trucking company dispatcher or driver as soon as a trucking company has been assigned to the order. You will want to get a solid
idea as to when the actual trucking company is estimating as it relates to the pickup and dropoff. This also establishes a line of communication which is always helpful when it comes to auto transportation.
3.) Be sure to get a digital or paper copy of the bill of lading on pickup The bill of lading is the most important document you will want to have in the event of any damages or incidents. This will be the primary
document any insurance company will want to see in the event of a claim. Furthermore, it also serves as a receipt for your transfer of liability of the vehicle from you to the carrier. Many carriers are now using a program
called Super Dispatch. Be sure you get either a digital or paper copy on pickup.
4.) Take multiple photos of your vehicle prior to transport It never hurts to have more than less. And in the case of auto transport, photos are an essential piece of information in the event of an insurance claim. Photos serve as evidence of the cars condition, just before
transport.
5.) Let the dispatcher or trucking company know if you're putting items in your vehicle. If you intend on putting items in your vehicle for a cross country trip, be sure to let airRyd, or the truck dispatcher, and
or driver know prior to the car being picked up. This will ensure the trucking company is aware of additional weight and or liabilities. Depending on how many items you are putting in your car, the trucking company may
charge an additional fee to move them, usually that is in the range of $50-100. Also, keep in mind nothing that you place in the car, is covered under the carrier cargo insurance policy.
6.) Have a backup plan If you have tight scheduling needs, make sure airRyd, and the trucking company that you eventually work with are aware of your scheduling needs. While we will do all we can to meet your requests,
it is still a great idea to have a backup plan in the event that a carrier cancels last minute, or a carrier cannot be found at the price range / date requirements that you have. In most cases, this simply means having
a friend, or a relative, or a neighbor, hold onto your vehicle while airRyd is coordinating the transport. You do not have to be present to have your car moved, so long as you give another person permission to act on your
behalf, and sign off on the bill of lading.
7.) Select a pickup and dropoff location In most cases auto transporters will attempt to deliver directly to your home. However, if you happen to live in a gated community, an apartment complex, a downtown area,
or a tight neighborhood, then you'll want to select a location that provides enough space and room for a truck to load, unload, and turn around. So just be aware of the neighborhood that you reside in. Also, if needed, Uber,
and Lyft can provide rides back home if you decide it's best to meet the truck at a nearby location.
8.) Know how you are going to pay for your transport In most cases the final trucking payment will be cash or cashier's check on delivery directly to the driver. If you are paying with cash, be sure you have the
money properly counted out and know how much you are giving the transporter prior to giving them any money. Secondly, if you are going to pay by cashier's check , be sure to have the proper rendition of the company name
before you have the check printed. Finally, if you need to pay by credit card, let us know as soon as possible. Usually we need to know prior to the vehicle being dispatched out for transport, but in some cases we can adjust
the order to a credit card payment. However, there is a fee for paying with credit card, and that is usually around 2.5%.
